Colonization and Settlement, 1607-1763

      By the 1750's, American colonists had developed a unique culture of their own. The colonists had effectively governed themselves throughout most of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. For the most part , the British government had left the colonists to fend for themselves during this "Age of Salutary Neglect," neither imposing new taxes or enforcing those on the books. This is the story of what happens as the colonists resist Britain's attempt to exert more influence over the colonies in the mid-1700's.
